Alarming Footage Shows Instant Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
A ranking policeman who jumped to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam footage shared by the police department revealed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife extended.
He ran into the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, bringing the fight to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell received two open wounds to his neck and further injuries to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his partner's blood loss prior to medical personnel came.
The new recognition comes subsequent to the law enforcement team received internal Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.
They further earned a Regional Courage Honor in summer 2024.
"The responses of the entire team ultimately protected each other and meant no bystanders endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, per authorities.
