Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase like this with results like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
