Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a character that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: you only need a one button to leap. Across numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a store to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to propel your character to new heights, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch triggers to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase more difficult game content in which things gets crazy.

Visually, the game boasts eye-catching stages and an amazing background music. The retro art with morphing basic polygons may remind fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall previous releases where you are a coiled turd, gaming frequently included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, such as winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers on November 19.
