Fly-tippers bury open land in enormous heap of rubbish

Illegal dump in Oxfordshire Witness
Massive waste site

The area has been described as an "environmental catastrophe".
A reporter inspected the scene and said the pile appeared to be "twenty feet in height at least".

Waste criminals have deposited a massive amount of rubbish in a rural area in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in public view" is approximately 150m (490ft) extending and 6m (20ft) in height.

The enormous heap has been discovered in a open area next to the River Cherwell close to Kidlington.

A local MP brought up the problem in parliament, stating it was "threatening an ecological catastrophe".

An environmental charity reported the unauthorized rubbish dump was created approximately a recently by an criminal network.

"This is an ecological disaster developing in public view.

"Every day that goes by increases the threat of hazardous run-off entering the waterways, poisoning animals and threatening the health of the complete river basin.

"Environmental authorities must respond promptly, not in months or years, which is their typical action timeframe."

Legal prohibition had been implemented by the environmental authorities.

It is challenging to distinguish any specific bits of garbage as it seems to have been pulverized with dirt combined.

Part of the garbage from the uppermost part of the mound has collapsed and is now merely five metres from the river.

The River Cherwell is a feeder stream of the River Thames, which signifies it flows through Oxford before connecting with the Thames.

The MP stated the cost of disposing of the garbage would be significant

The representative requested the government for support to clear the illegal tip before it triggered a inferno or was swept into the aquatic system.

Addressing elected representatives on recently, he stated: "Lawbreakers have deposited a mountain of unauthorized polymer rubbish... amounting to substantial weight, in my constituency on a water-adjacent land adjacent to the River Cherwell.

"Stream volumes are increasing and heatmaps show that the garbage is also increasing in temperature, elevating the threat of combustion.

"The Environment Agency said it has restricted funding for enforcement, that the anticipated expense of disposal is greater than the whole yearly budget of the regional government."

Cabinet member said the authorities had taken over a failing disposal business that had caused an "epidemic of illegal dumping".

She informed parliament members the authority had served a prohibition notice to stop additional entry to the area.

In a declaration, the organization stated it was looking into the situation and appealed for details.

It said: "We acknowledge the community's anger about situations like this, which is why we take action against those responsible for waste crime."

A newly released study found attempts to tackle significant waste crime have been "extremely under-prioritised" despite the situation growing bigger and more complex.

A parliamentary committee suggested an independent "thorough" investigation into how "widespread" environmental offenses is addressed.
