Liverpool Will Not Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Insists Arne Slot

Liverpool's head coach has revealed that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their attacking style in search of a turnaround. The manager admitted that six losses in seven matches was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Growing Expectations Throughout Tough Spell

Liverpool's coach recognized the scrutiny was intense before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against the London club. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.

"We share common perspectives," remarked Slot, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the Champions League and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the domestic competition.

Player Depth Remains Unchallenged

The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are all fit and completely set for the programme we are facing". He mentioned that the recent signings in players such as the German international and the Swedish striker, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the years to come".

Team Cohesion Issues

When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What are the reasons?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify five or six reasons why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Even if I could list multiple factors
  • As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
  • The reality is six defeats in seven games

Backline Performance

Only Burnley (21) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The league leaders, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the champions have been too open and maintains there is no justification to compromise forward-thinking approach for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a shutout.

"I don't see us conceding a lot of chances so I find no basis to modify our philosophy entirely but we need to do better in preventing goals," he declared.

Recent Examples

"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we scarcely gave up a effort at our net. In all the games we have competed in we haven't allowed a lot of chances. Definitely not. We do concede a bit more than last season but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't believe that our challenge is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we don't score the openings we produce."
