The Burmese armed forces claims it has captured one of the most well-known scam facilities on the border with Thailand, as it reclaims important land previously lost in the ongoing civil war.

KK Park, south of the border town of Myawaddy, has been associated with online fraud, financial crime and human trafficking for the previous five-year period.

Thousands were attracted to the complex with promises of lucrative jobs, and then forced to manage elaborate schemes, extracting substantial sums of money from victims across the globe.

The armed forces, previously stained by its associations to the deception industry, now says it has occupied the complex as it expands control around Myawaddy, the primary trade link to Thailand.

Military Progress and Political Goals

In recent weeks, the armed forces has repelled rebels in various areas of Myanmar, attempting to expand the number of locations where it can organize a proposed poll, starting in December.

It still lacks authority over extensive areas of the state, which has been torn apart by fighting since a military coup in February 2021.

The election has been dismissed as a fake by anti-junta elements who have sworn to block it in regions they hold.

Beginnings and Expansion of KK Park

KK Park began with a lease agreement in the first part of 2020 to establish an industrial park between the ethnic organization (KNU), the ethnic insurgent group which governs much of this area, and a unfamiliar Hong Kong stock market company, Huanya International.

Analysts believe there are relationships between Huanya and a prominent Chinese criminal individual Wan Kuok Koi, better known as Broken Tooth, who has since funded further deception hubs on the boundary.

The complex developed quickly, and is readily noticeable from the Thai territory of the frontier.

Those who succeeded to flee from it detail a harsh regime enforced on the numerous individuals, many from Africa-based nations, who were held there, compelled to operate extended shifts, with mistreatment and physical violence inflicted on those who failed to achieve quotas.

Recent Events and Claims

A statement by the regime's official media said its personnel had "secured" KK Park, releasing over 2,000 employees there and seizing 30 of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite terminals – extensively used by deception facilities on the border boundary for internet functions.

The declaration accused what it called the "extremist" ethnic organization and local resistance groups, which have been opposing the regime since the overthrow, for wrongfully occupying the territory.

The military's claim to have shut down this infamous scam hub is very likely aimed at its key supporter, China.

Beijing has been urging the regime and the Thai government to take additional measures to terminate the illegal activities operated by China-based organizations on their common boundary.

Previously in the year thousands of Asian laborers were removed of fraud complexes and transported on chartered planes back to China, after Thai authorities eliminated availability to energy and fuel resources.

Larger Context and Continuing Functions

But KK Park is only one of no fewer than 30 analogous facilities located on the boundary.

The majority of these are under the guardianship of local paramilitary forces aligned to the military, and most are still functioning, with countless people running scams inside them.

In actuality, the support of these militia groups has been crucial in enabling the military drive back the KNU and further opposition factions from area they captured over the past two years.

The armed forces now governs almost all of the road connecting Myawaddy to the other parts of Myanmar, a objective the junta determined before it holds the initial phase of the election in December.

It has taken Lay Kay Kaw, a new town created for the KNU with Asian financial support in 2015, a time when there had been expectations for permanent peace in the Karen region following a nationwide truce.

That constitutes a more important blow to the KNU than the takeover of KK Park, from which it obtained limited income, but where the bulk of the monetary advantages ended up with pro-junta armed groups.

A knowledgeable contact has indicated that deception operations is persisting in KK Park, and that it is possible the armed forces occupied just a portion of the extensive facility.

The insider also suspects Beijing is providing the Burmese armed forces rosters of China-based people it seeks taken from the deception complexes, and transported back to face trial in China, which may clarify why KK Park was raided.
