The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
