Yesavage authored a masterclass on the mound and Davis Schneider homered on the very first pitch as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the Los Angeles Dodgers 6–1 on Wednesday, standing one win away of their first championship since 1993.

Yesavage's Historic Outing

The 22-year-old Yesavage, who debuted in the majors this past September, recorded 12 strikeouts and zero walks – the first pitcher in World Series history to do so. The rookie right-hander gave up only a single run on three hits in seven innings. His year commenced in the low minors with minimal fanfare, but has now been the winning pitcher in two of Toronto's three wins in this best-of-seven series.

A Quick Start for Toronto

Toronto’s hitters gave him breathing room almost immediately. On the initial throw, Schneider drilled a 97-mile-per-hour heater and drove it over the left-field wall. Immediately after, Vladimir Guerrero Jr homered as well to a similar location. It marked the unprecedented occurrence in the World Series that the game began with two straight homers, shocking the spectators before most had taken their places.

The Pitcher's Dominance

Yesavage then assumed command. He fanned five in a row between the early frames, setting a rookie record before Kiké Hernández finally broke the streak with a solo shot in the third inning to make it two to one. That was the nearest the Dodgers came.

Extending the Lead

In the fourth, Varsho lined a triple into the right-field corner after a misplay, and Clement delivered a sacrifice fly to plate the run for a three to one lead. The Los Angeles offense continued to sputter from there. After managing six runs in a lengthy extra-inning contest, they’ve produced just four runs in their last 29 innings.

Late Inning Insurance

The Dodgers starter persisted for over six frames but exited in the seventh after the bases became full. Both runners he left behind came around to score – one on a wild pitch and another on an RBI single – to extend the lead to 5–1. A eighth-inning base hit provided the final margin.

Bullpen Secures the Win

Yesavage exited to a standing ovation from the traveling fans, and the bullpen did the rest. The bullpen arms each tossed a shutout frame to end the game, fanning three batters collectively while protecting the rookie's gem.

Dodgers' Lineup Shuffle Falters

The Dodgers, who rearranged their batting order in an attempt to generate runs, again couldn't find momentum. Their star slugger went without a hit in four trips and is now without a hit in his last seven appearances since reaching base a World Series-record nine times in the third game.

Now leading the series three games to two, Toronto return home with two opportunities to win it all. Game 6 is Friday night at Toronto's ballpark.
